TOUR

OLD LISBON & THE HILLS

Half day walking tour

This tour combines the historical centre: the hills and downtown. We start visiting the highest of the 7 hills, where the city was founded int the 5th century BC, S.George’s castle. We will then enter the oldest district of Lisbon: Alfama and discover the narrow twisted streets, unveiling local curiosities that only locals are aware. Then across downtown we walk up to Bairro Alto and get to the top of the elevator Sta Justa from where we have a breathtaking view overlooking downtown, the typical red tile roofs and the fortress of St.George’s Castle.
We will walk through Bairro Alto, the bohemian district of Lisbon and one of the cradles of Fado (the song of Portuguese soul) admiring the most important of the Portuguese decorative arts: Azulejo (glazed tile) covering the facades of the 19th and 20th cent. Our tour ends with a funicular ride taking us back to downtown, Restauradores sq.

This tour can also be adapted to a ride on the famous tramway nr.28, up and down the hills of old Lisbon
