FÁTIMA, MONASTERY OF BATALHA, NAZARÉ AND ÓBIDOS

In 1917 three little shepherds were blessed with the apparitions of Virgin Mary and since then every year millions of pilgrims come from all over Portugal and the world to worship Our Lady of Fátima, making it one the most important catholic shrines of the world. After a orientation tour in the sanctuary you will be given time for personal prayer, vows, light a candle and feel the mystic religious atmosphere.
After we proceed to the village of Batalha, where you will have the opportunity to visit one the most magnificent jewels of final gothic art, the Monastery of Our lady of Vitctory, so called after the divine vitctory by the Portuguese in the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. Another monument in Portugal listed by UNESCO as World Heritage.
The relax break, enjoying lunch time in the fishing village of Nazaré, one of the longest sandy beaches of Portugal, famous for fresh fish (affordable price), fishermen mending their nets in the sand, the fresh salted fish drying at the sun and, most recently, by the record of Garrett MacNamara, an American professional big wave surfer, who, in 2013, broke his own world record of 2012, riding a 100ft wave off the coast of Nazaré, at Praia do Norte.
Not far from Nazaré, we get to Óbidos and, back to the medieval ages, we visit the walled in village with its cobbled streets, white washed houses with flowered balconies. Town of Portuguese queens since king Dinis, who in the late 13th century, offered his queen the village of Óbidos as a wedding gift; we will have a glimpse at the royal palace, nowadays a deluxe state inn, from where you can enjoy a wonderful panorama of the village. One should also taste the lspeciality of the place : “ginginha”, black cherry liqueur.
